Help getting cover artwork into the right size

About artwork

When releasing new music on Record Union you have the option to upload an artwork image. This artwork will be associated with your release on the different digital music services your music becomes available on.

The size and format of the cover artwork needs to follow these specifications:

  • The size must be at least 1400 x 1400 pixels
  • The file format needs to be JPG or PNG format

Note: ideally image should also be square - but if its over 1400 x 1400 pixels then you can crop it when uploading it to your release.

Getting cover artwork in the right size

The most common problem faced is that the artwork image is too small.

If you don't know how to resize your image, here is one straightforward way of doing this:

Step 1: Head to Image Resizer and select to upload your artwork image.

Step 2: Under the "Resize Image Dimensions" heading, select "Custom Size".

Step 3: Adjust the width or height until both exceed 1600 x 1600 pixels.

Step 4: Head to the final in their wizard to save and download your resized image.

Step 5: Your image should now been larger than 1600 x 1600 pixels on both sides and you can now upload it to your Release on Record Union.

If your image is not square, then you can use the cropping tool to cut our a square section of it.

Important note

If you resize a small image and make it a lot bigger then it will lose quality and become pixelated. Ideally you need your cover art to be larger than 1400 x 1400 pixels when you start off.

If you have a rectangular image (say 9000 x 1400 pixels) and make it 1400 x 1400 pixels them the image will be squashed and look weird. To avoid this, it is important the the cover artwork you want to use is square(ish) to start off.
